About
Hi. My name is Johanna Bailey and I’m an illustrator and a freelance writer who has written for publications throughout the United States, the UK, Japan and Spain.
For the past seven years my family and I have been traveling the world and having all kinds of interesting experiences that range from the enlightening to the humiliating (usually I am enlightened and humiliated simultaneously). From 2003-2006, we lived in Tokyo, Japan and this is where our five- year old son Nicolas was born. In Tokyo I sang ABCs for a bunch of rich Burberry plaid clad Japanese kids whose parents were hoping to turn them into geniuses by the age of three. I taught them words such as “smelter” and “Gorgonzola” which I’m sure will come in handy in their future as child prodigies.
Next we spent a year living in Lausanne, Switzerland and although I missed Tokyo a lot, I didn’t miss being called “Sir,” a frequent occurrence in Japan. In 2008 we picked up our family and moved again, this time to Spain. In 2009 our baby Luca was born in Madrid. Now we live in Barcelona. Confused? Me too.
I would love to hear from you. Email me at johanna dot nico at gmail dot com
