Scary Friend

November 16, 2007

Today I bought to artichokes for five dollars each. Things are ridiculously expensive in Switzerland (in most cases more than they were in Japan) but I suspected that even for here the price was outrageous when the cashier told me she was sorry for me. As luck would have it, Alex called at 6:30pm to say that he was eating in Geneva and wouldn’t be back until late. I didn’t get the message until an hour later at which point the artichokes were already boiling away. I went ahead and ate mine alone and watched the rest of "Broken English," (a really great movie by the way.)

We also had a new babysitter come to meet Nico yesterday. She seemed nice enough although at one point she told Nico that "boys didn’t cry" which always bugs the hell out of me. These days, Nico’s babysitters are typically young, pretty teenage girls who speak French or English. They wear tight skinny jeans and lots of eye liner and he seems to like this. This lady on the other hand was tiny and rather wizened looking, maybe missing a few teeth. After she left, Nico walked off by himself down the hallway shaking his head. Under his breath I heard him mutter, "Scary friend!" Not promising.
