Gifts Given

December 27, 2006

This year I attempted to do an all "handmade Christmas" for the first time. Each person received handmade gifts with the exception of Nico. I actually had originally planned to make his gift as well but in the end it didn’t work out and I wound up at Toys R Us with everyone else. Here are some of the gifts that I did make:

For my mom, a little Russian inspired doll made with both vintage and contemporary Japanese fabrics. My mom loves Russia and she also loves mushroom hunting so I thought the combo was perfect.

My stepdad is a fabulous cook so I made him these chef dolls

When my brother and I were young we were absolutely obsessed by a book from the 1960s called "Coffee, Tea or Me?" which details the saucy sky adventures of a buxom flight attendant. We still look back on this particular book with great fondness. Therefore, this is what he received-

My Dad loves birds so for him I did this painting- detail below. It’s a watercolor wash onto which I drew a few birds in black ink and then stitched onto.

Delightful, all! Think my favorite is the bird painting.
